City
Of Lathrop – Booster
Station #3 and Reservoir
WBA was retained to complete a fast track design of a new 1250
gpm pump station and a 1 mgd welded steel reservoir and a for
the City's potable water system. WBA developed biddable contract
documents in two months by incorporating design/build elements
into the design. This reduced the typical design period by two
months. Two vertical turbine pumps with VFDs were installed with
speed control based on system pressure. The design also included
an emergency generator, a 3500 gpm diesel driven fire pump and
SCADA control and monitoring. The pumps, generator, MCCs, and
SCADA control panel were located in a new building designed to
match the general appearance of the surrounding homes. In addition,
the building was designed to attenuate the sound of the equipment
such that it was not noticeable outside the building. The contract
documents also included architectural design for the reservoir
and site to improve the aesthetic appearance of the project for
the neighboring homes.
Buckingham Park Water District – Water
Treatment Facilities Improvements
The Buckingham Park Water District selected WBA to design
improvements to the District’s water treatment facilities.
The District was using both well water and surface water
from Clear Lake
to supply approximately 300,000 gallons per day. As the well
water
was of poor quality and the levels in the wells declining,
the District wished to modify their treatment facilities
to utilize
the lake for all of its needs. At the same time the District
needed to increase its capacity. WBA evaluated the existing
facilities
and proposed modifications to convert an existing pressure
filter for use on the lake water. The design included adding
a new variable
speed water pump, adding a new flocculator-clarifier to the
plant process train and improving sludge drying facilities.
Provisions
were made in the design to enable to the District to use
the well supply as a backup to the lake supply.
DSRSD – Water
Pump Stations 200 and 300A
WBA performed construction management for Water
Pump Stations 200 and 300A, and provided project management for the
design of the pump stations. WBA was able to actively look after
the owner’s interests while developing and maintaining a good
working relationship with the contractor, and successfully meet various
scheduling milestones and constraints. WBA emphasized close coordination
with the owner’s operations and engineering field staff so
that construction was well integrated with the construction of related
facilities, and start-up, testing, and operation of the facilities
was well integrated with existing operations. The work also involved
working closely with the developer and initial customer to successfully
meet developer service requirements.
