ABSTRACT
This
presentation examines the changing environment facing those
with an interest in UV disinfection of recycled water. Much
of the past work was conducted to gain acceptance for site-specific
UV systems. As more UV manufacturers are not only seeking acceptance
for site-specific UV systems, but a broader acceptance for
a UV technology applied to any site, the mode of selecting
and testing UV systems is shifting. For technological acceptance,
UV system validation by bioassay and velocity profiling is
required. Now that more UV systems have technological acceptance,
velocity profiling and other requirements have become the focus.
This shift in focus has important impacts for those involved
in selecting UV systems for disinfection and permitting tertiary
recycled water facilities that include UV disinfection.
